No more Fight at the Idol.
Mariah Carey is leaving "American Idol" after a one-season stint on the
show. The singer made it official on Thursday afternoon (May 30) with a tweet by her longtime PR firm, PMK-BNC, that read, "W/ global success of "#Beautiful" (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol." The message was promptly retweeted by Carey.
Although Mariah's "one and done" work on "American Idol" has been a source of speculation for months, rumors intensified after Carey parted ways with her fellow judge and longtime manager Randy Jackson on May 8. The next day, Jackson announced that he would be leaving "Idol" himself after 12 seasons.
Shortly after Carey's departure became public, Nicki Minaj announced that she, too, would be moving on from "Idol."
She tweeted: “Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!
Since joining the show, the pair have had several spats, on and off air.
The Starships singer reportedly lashed out at Mariah after she hired more security following a death threat.
She was alleged to have commented: “If I had a gun, I’d shoot her.”
On another occasion Mariah commented, “This is what I have to deal with,” after Nicki rejected a contestant over the colour of her eye shadow.
Jennifer Lopez is rumoured to be returning to the panel for the next season.
Farewell ladies.
